Taylor Russell McKenzie was conceived in Vancouver, British Columbia on July 18th, 1994. She also grew up in Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal. [1][22 Russell, who was born to an African-American father and a white mother, is biracial and grew up with her mother's family. She claimed that her skin color was a reason that made her feel rejected by her peers as an infant. [3] Her parents struggled financially, and were constantly in a state of flux, moving their homes 16 times to follow her father's career. Russell stated that in spite of all the struggles they faced, there was always an possibility to reinvent and make something fresh. Russell's parents faced financial hardship and she was always in motion. When she was 18, she began her first class in acting. She used the money she earned from her job to buy a car, and drove to Los Angeles, to audition. She would return to work after her funds ran out , before performing. This routine continued for four years until she was offered her first big TV job.
